Your Part in Gods' Plan

Giving is an opportunity for you to sew into something bigger than yourself. We do not give to merely keep the lights on, or to make someone's pocket fat, we give to perform Gods' righteous cause in the earth.

What type of giver are you? What type of giver do you desire to be? In order to be effective one must...

Be a Motivated Giver– Find the Motivation.  2 Cor 9:2-3 I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action.
Be a Prepared Giver– Find the Means. 2 Cor 9:3-5 I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you in this matter should not prove hollow, but that you may be ready, as I said you would be. For if any Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we not to say anything about you-would be ashamed of having been so confident. So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you in advance and finish the arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a generous gift, not as one grudgingly given.  1 Chron 29:1-5 (David said ) “The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the LORD God. With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God…gold…silver…bronze…iron…wood…stones…marble - all of these in large quantities. Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God.
I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple.  Ex 35:5 (Moses said to the people) “From what you have, take an offering for the LORD.”
Be a  Willing Giver– Find the Motive. 2 Cor 9:6-8 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 1 Chron 29:5-7 (David said) “Now, who is willing to consecrate himself today to the LORD?" Then the leaders of families, the officers…the commanders….and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly. They gave toward the work on the temple of God. Ex 35:21-22 (Following Moses’ appeal) Everyone who was willing and whose heart moved him came and brought an offering to the LORD for the work on the Tent of Meeting, for all its service, and for the sacred garments. All who were willing, men and women alike, came and brought gold jewellery of all kinds: brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments. They all presented their gold as a wave offering to the LORD.
Be an Expectant Giver– Find the Magnitude. 2 Cor 9:10-12 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.
Be an Obedient Giver– Find the Maturity. 2 Cor 9:12-13 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
